The roots

Raised to serve.

Shomari Figures was raised in his grandfather's church in Mobile, Alabama, and educated in the state through law school. He graduated from John L. LeFlore High School, earned degrees in criminal justice and history from the University of Alabama, and his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law.

Public service is the family business. His father, the late State Senator Michael Figures, was a lawyer who fought to expand rights for Black Alabamians in Mobile. His mother, Vivian Davis Figures, served on the Mobile City Council and was later elected to the State Senate seat her husband once held — where she serves to this day.

The family

Home is everything.

Shomari is the proud husband of Dr. Kalisha Dessources Figures, a former schoolteacher, and the father of three — Micah, Novah, and Zorah.

It's that next generation — and every family across Alabama's 2nd District — that drives his work: better schools, accessible healthcare, good jobs, and communities where every child can grow up safe and supported.

Where he stands →
Alabama is home. It is where I was raised in my grandfather's church, and where I learned that service isn't a title — it's a responsibility.
